Roleplaying a Gnoll: Gnolls are a fierce and savage race, close to their primal roots both in appearance and behavior. Children of Lemuel, they revere nature and are its sworn protectors. Their close ties with the wilderness have made them distrustful of all sophistry: magic, cities, gadgetry and the races such as the elves, dwarves and humans who the gnolls believe have lost touch with their true self. As a gnoll, your character should avoid the trappings of erudition and elitism. You are creatures of the wild, free from all the trappings that mark civilization, instead relying on your brute strength and animal cunning to achieve your end. Background determines a gnoll's tendencies, those brought up in packs tending to be the most lawful. Though mistrustful of those outside their race, both trust and loyalty once gained are unmatched. Though a favoured friend however the gnoll is also a brutal enemy, and once angered, one of the realm's most fearsome creatures. It is rage which may lead them from traditional neutral paths to darker alignments. |
